One of the most awaited bike of the year Yamaha new YZF-R15 version 2.0 was launched today. There was a lot of speculations of the bike getting 22Ps of power, ABS, price reduced and many more.. Some even were mistaken by the looks and though it was a 250cc bike.
Yamaha made an end to all the speculations when the company launched the Version 2.0 in Delhi.
First glance
The R15 looks a lot bigger than the previous model and now looks more complete. The bike seats on the same Deltabox Frame which forms the basis for riding comfort and handling performance and the confidence it gives while cornering. The design elements are borrowed from the supersport model YZF-R1 that is adapted from YZR-M1 MotoGP race machine.
The bike has a good list of exterior changes which includes newly designed middle cowl, tail cowl, split seat, LED taillights, new exhaust pipe & silencer. There are also plastic elements which look like carbon fibre when viewed from certain angles. A R15 embossed in silver look plate is attached to the silencer which gives the long silencer some character.
According to Yamaha the newly designed middle cowl features improved aerodynamic performance at higher speeds – the aerodynamic resistance value is 4% better than that of the existing YZF-R15.
The bike now gets a 130mm tyre at the rear and 90mm at the front. So now one cannot complain of the thin tyres when the bike was first launched way back in 2008. The new 5 spoke design alloy wheels just look decent.
Another interesting feature the bike gets is larger 220mm diameter rear disc brake has been adopted to achieve a better balance with the new rear tire size and ensure good braking power.
The bike comes with the same 149cc engine with 17ps@8500 rpm. However the Torque has been upped to 15Nm@7500 rpm.
The machine has undergone changes in the specs of the Engine Control unit (ECU), drivetrain unit, a long aluminium swing arm. These mechanical changes have been tested which promises to deliver greater performance in circuit riding. We have seen a lot of spy pics of the R15 being tested.
Price
The new bike is priced at Rs. 1,07,000 (Ex-showroom, Delhi) higher by around 10,000.
Colour options
The bike will be available in Racing Blue, Midnight Black & Sunset Red colours.
