Volkswagen will launch a petrol variant of the Jetta sedan in the Indian market. The new Jetta was initially launched with a diesel engine option only. The Jetta will now get a 1.4-litre TSI petrol motor which will develop a decent power of 120 hp and 200Nm of Torque.
The Skoda Laura on the other hand is powered by a 1.8 TSi which is the one of the competitors of the Jetta. Seems like Volkswagen want to focus on fuel efficiency rather than performance.
The smaller engine may help the German car maker to price the product aggressively.
Well the petrol price wont come down certainly but car makers are offering fuel efficient cars which give mileage in par with the diesel and lower prices which reduces the cost of ownership of the cars.
The Jetta will make its official debut in India in April. We can also expect a petrol variant of the Passat which will get the 1.8 TSi or may be a new 1.6 TSi engine.
