Volkswagen India will launch a new variant, Polo 1.2 TSI hatch next month. The company will introduce the 1.2 litre TSI petrol engine on the Polo to become the first car manufacturer in India to offer turbo petrol engine in smaller cars.
The Polo 1.2 TSI has been caught testing on the Indian roads sometime back in Pune. The new variant will replace the Polo 1.6 which was powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine developing 103 bhp and 153 Nm of torque. The smaller 1.2 TSI engine will develop power & torque in the same range. The 1.2 TSI will get a 6 Speed manual and may include a seven speed DSG as optional which is available in the UK markets on the 1.4 TSI engine options.
We have got a tip of the 1.2 TSI being manufactured at the Chakan plant and is being ready to roll out. Volkswagen is also working on more Polo variants including a 1.6 GTD diesel hot hatch and Cross Polo.
VW is concentrating on the Polo and Vento models to increase volumes and there are no new models planned until 2014. Volkswagen is also studying the feasibility to launch the Taigun compact SUV in the Indian market.
