Voklswagen has been battling with the sales downturn. The company launched new features in Polo & Vento and also a price cut to attract more buyers. There has been news in the past of the company planning to launch cars with CNG and other fuel options.
Thanks to our friends at ICB, who have confirmed the news of the Vento CNG being testing in Pune. With Honda launching a CNG variant of the most proffered sedan, the Vento CNG is a defiantly a headstart.
The Vento CNG will get a company fitted sequential CNG kit with a separate ECU and may receive modifications to the suspension to offer better drive and take up the extra load. The CNG variant could cost at least Rs. 75-80,000 more in addition to the price of the petrol variant.
The Vento is currently available with two engine options: 1.6 litre petrol engine and a 1.6 Litre turbo diesel engine. The bulk of the sales are through the latter.
Volkswagen is also planning to launch a compact saloon in the Indian market on the lines of Maruti Dzire and Tata Indigo CS. The sedan which will measure under 4 metres and is most likely to be based on the UP! Platform. The company is also studying the feasibility of the UP! Hatchback for the Indian market and has already commenced testing to make it suitable for the Indian conditions.
