Volkswagen Ameo launched in Goa
Mody AutoCorp the sole Volkswagen dealer agent for Goa drove in the highly acclaimed Ameo compact sedan. The Ameo is priced aggressively at Rs. 5.24 lakhs (Ex showroom Goa) for the base petrol.
The Made in India, made for India Ameo share its platform with the Polo hatchback and is currently available in petrol engine only.
The Ameo shares a lot of its design cues with the Polo hatchback until the B pillar, from where things start to change. The roof flows seamlessly into the stubby boot and Volkswagen has given the Ameo sharp and distinctive lines to make it more attractive.
The headlamps and grille look alike to the Polo. The bumper gets a sporty design with front lip spoiler and a thick chrome strip in the air dam adds to a premium feeling.
The side profile too has plenty of distinctive lines, there’s a waistline which starts from the headlamps and meets the bootlid where the roofline merges into the boot.
The Rear of the Ameo looks a bit boxy but VW has managed to give the car distinctive rear with a boot lip spoiler and unique tail lamps.
The interiors get beige color, with dual tone black for the top and beige for the lower half treatment on the dashboard, while the centre console gets silver treatment. The entertainment and infotainment system is handled via a touchscreen which features Mirror link with ipod connectivity and phonebook/ SMS viewer.
The Ameo features many first in class features such as Cruise control, rear A/C vents, rain sensing wipers, Anti pinch power windows, front arm rest with storage space inside, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors with LED side turn indicators, Rear parking camera with parking sensors, cooled glovebox and tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
Safety aspect has been high for Volkswagen with superior build quality and all variants get dual front airbags and ABS as standard.
The Ameo draws power from a 1.2 litre multi point injection petrol engine that produces 74 bhp and 110 nm of torque and comes mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.
The Volkswagen Ameo with its German build quality, long list of features and distinctive styling will give the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Honda’s recently updated Amaze, Tata Zest, upcoming Tata Kite 4 sedan and Hyundai Xcent tuff times ahead.
