Toyota updated the Fortuner 3.0 diesel engine in the Thai market. After a second facelift and now into its eighth year, the Fortuner – as well as the Hilux Vigo Champ pick-up donor vehicle – has got a much-awaited technical update.
The 3.0-litre diesel-turbo engine gets improved outputs of 171hp and 360Nm, up from 163hp and 343Nm. In India the Fortuner 3.0-litre diesel-turbo engine produces 126 kW @ 3600 rpm (171 PS @ 3600 rpm) and 343 Nm @ 1400-3400 rpm.
There’s also a new five-speed automatic in place of the old four-speeder, although manual override isn’t available to match that found in the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The unchanged 2.5-litre version also gets a five-speeder, but the 2.7-litre petrol-head doesn’t; owners will need to be content with the old four-speed in the Thai market.
Toyota may soon update the Fortuner in India has the engine and transmission are shipped form Thailand. The Fortuner is assembled at the Bangalore plant. Toyota does not to stay behind when compared to performance of the Pajero Sport which produces 178 PS@ 4000 of max power and Max Torque of 400 Nm@ 2000–2500 rpm.
The Fortuner is the leader in the segment selling 1000 plus units per month which is almost 3 times its closest competitor.
