Mahindra plans to launch an electric version of the Verito in by 2014 claims Chetan Maini, chief technology officer, Mahindra Reva
After the acquisition of Reva cars by Mahindra, the JV is working on a number of electic models which help the company meet the electric demand if it does exist in the future. Mahindra also showcased the electric version of the Verito at the 2012 Auto Expo. The car is equipped with a 29 KW AC motor instead of a conventional engine and on a single full charge, can take you a distance of 100 kms.
The Verito Electric also offers the convenience of an easy, clutch-free drive that is also zero-emission
The key features of the Verito Electric include:
- Pure electric
- Telematics (information gateway – Connects car info to the external world)
- Li – Ion Battery
- Clutchless easy drive
- Noise levels are much lower than current conventional IC Engine vehicle
- Fast charging Port Provision (can charge it 1hr 15min)
- Normal charging time 6hrs
With max speed of 100kmph and decent mileage does it really make sense to buy a Verito Electric? Instead the company should work on a hybrid model like the Civic which use both the engine and electric motor to drive.
The company has developed electric options of light trucks Maxximo and Gio and electric versions of utility vehicles Bolero and Scorpio are technologically feasible as per the company’s engineering department.
Do you think its the time the government takes measure to boost the image of electric vehicles by offering huge benefits. It will help to lower the daily running costs, but will it really help the common man?
