First previewed in Frankfurt last year as the Cross up! Concept, German car maker Volkswagen has unveiled the all new 5-door version of the Up. This is themodel is most likely to make it in India.
The production version carries over the same engines and option packages as the three-door Up!
Overall vehicle dimension and cargo capacity stay the same as the three-door. However the extra wide opening rear doors help easy entry and exit. The boot space is 251 litres with the seats up and 951 liters with the rear seats folded down.
The only engine available is the three-cylinder 1.0-liter petrol unit with BlueMotion tech (including a stop/start system) outputting 44 kW (60 PS / 60 bhp) and 55 kW (75 PS / 75 bhp).
India could get the first tune which makes the car a good competitor to the likes of A-Star and i10.
VW did not showcase the Up at the 2012 Auto Expo. But we expect this small to make it to India by 2013-14. VW is planning to launch more vehicles to expand its portfolio.
