According to our friends at BS Motoring, the Brio sedan launch could happen sooner than expected in 2013 as opposed to 2014. Honda which has seen turmoil in terms of sales in the last six months has advanced its car launches to gain a higher market share. Brio was the first attempt, which has actually helped the Japanese car maker to post decent numbers.
Come 2013 and Honda will launch the Brio sedan. The company recently made a big announcement of its plan for the Indian market which includes a Brio sedan, New Jazz and new variants of the Brio and City.
The Diesel engine plant will start operating by end of 2013. We feel Honda may launch the Brio sedan with a petrol engine initially and later may launch the car with a diesel engine option. The Brio sedan will measure less than four metres and it will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Indigo CS and the upcoming Verito compact sedan.
The new diesel engine is based on the 1.6-litre diesel engine which is first offered on Civic in Europe. Honda is also developing either a 1.4 or 1.5 diesel engines which could power the City and the upcoming compact SUV based on the Jazz platform. The 1.2 litre diesel engine could feature Honda’s i-DTec technology and will have max power output in the range of 70 to 80 bhp.
The Brio sedan will definitely be a very important model for Honda in terms of volumes. Pricing could be in range of Rs. 5.25 – 7 lakhs for the top model.
