This week can be titled as the week of car launches. In the last 2 days 4 new models from various car makers have marked their presence. Today again is a also a very big day for Tata Motors as they will launch the Safari Storme SUV. The model is very important for the Pune automaker to regain its glory in the SUV segment which is now dominated by Mahindra. The Storme will be positioned above the current Safari which will not be discontinued.
The Safari Storme is powered by refined 2.2L DiCOR engine tagged as ‘VERiCOR’ engine which will produce a decent 140 PS power; 320 Nm torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and gets a new dual mass flywheel adopted from the Aria that helps to cuts noise and vibration significantly. Electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) enables shifting from 2WD to 4WD even on the move
Ssangyong will marks its entry in the Indian market with its first model the Rexton W. The luxury SUV will be pitted directly against the Toyota Fortuner which has been ruling the 20 lakh SUV segment since launch. The Rexton will be powered by all-new 2-litre diesel engine that produces 154bhp of peak power and 367Nm of peak torque. The 2L diesel engine returns a fuel efficiency of 13.7 km/l (2WD A/T) and is mated to a Mercedes-sourced 5-speed automatic transmission.
Both the models are very important for the two brands and pricing will be one of the important criterion.
