Tata is gearing to launch a new commercial pick-up truck which could most probably replace the ageing 207 in the Indian market. The new pick-up truck will be based on the Xenon platform and will have a many features borrowed from the Tata Xenon double cab pick-up which is currently sold as a lifestyle vehicle in India.
Thanks to our friends at IAB who have got the first images of the pick-up based on the Xenon.
The new LCV will be called Xenon Pick-up and will be positioned as an up market carrier in Indian market. The main competitor is the Mahindra Genio which is available as in two variants: Single Cab and Double Cab.
The growing Indian economy and increasing number of wealthy farmers will certainly help this segment see a largely growth.
The Xenon pick-up will be powered by a 3.0L Turbo diesel (2956CC 3.0 CR4) engine which has a max power of 62 kw @3000rpm (85 Ps) and Max torque of 250Nm @ 1600 – 2000 rpm. The same engine also does duty on the Sumo Gold.
The Xenon Pick-up will most likely see customers which transfer high end goods like electronics and wealthy farmers.
Tata Xenon Pickup features
- Tata Xenon single cab
- Crome grille
- Grey interiors
- A/C (optional)
- Flat cargo bay
- Leaf spring front and rear suspension, fitted with anti-roll bar
- 16-inch wheels
- Tubeless tyres
Tata is also selling the same Xenon pick-up single cab with CNG fitted kit in the NCR and a few other parts of India. Seems like the company was testing the market for the Xenon Pick-up before launching it commercially in entire India.
