Land Rover is gearing up to start assembly of sports utility vehicle (SUV) Freelander2 from November
this year at Chikhli facility in Maharashtra, which was used earlier by Mercedes Benz.
According to sources, Tata Motors is currently conducting maintenance work and installing machinery Chikhli to start the assembly around November.
Considering Audi which has already started assembling the Q5 and BMW which start assembling X1, this is good move by Tata to keep the price competitive of its smallest sibling in the Land Rover range.
Assembling will Land Rover will help decrease prices considerably. The problem is will Tata be able to keep the quality, considering the quality issues ,fit and finish we have seen on the Tata and Fiat cars. Jaguar & Land Rover will also set up new dealers in India, and increase its presence in other parts of the country.
