Mahindra has been testing the Rexton in India for quite some time now. The Rexton being tested is the old generation model and not the new generation Rexton W which was revealed in Busan Auto Show. Mahindra received a lukewarm response to the Rexton when the spy pics of the car were first reaveled and it was speculation that Mahindra might launch the new version of Rexton, The Rexton W. But that does not seem to be happening.
Mahindra is testing the old Rexton extensively. The car is being tested without any camouflage indicating that it is in the final stages of testing. The front of the car looks a bit dated and oddly shaped. The rear though is good looking. The car is long and has good height and width indicating that the interiors will be spacious. Like most SUVs it has good ground clearance and decent road presence.
Rexton will be powered by a 2.7 litre 5 cylinder diesel engine sourced from Mercedes. It is likely to be re-badged as a Mahindra and will be positioned above the XUV 500. The Rexton will compete with the likes of Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva and Toyota Fortuner. However we expect Mahindra to price the Rexton competitively in the 15 to 17 lakh price range which means it will undercut its rivals by a good margin.
