If you are one of those people, who have already made plans to book the EcoSport in advance; it seems Ford doesn’t want you to wait for long. Despite the unveiling of the concept only a week ago, Ford has already started testing the EcoSport’s production version in China! Our friends from ChinaCarTimes have managed to snap the production version of the CUV, and have shared two photographs with us.
This is the first time that the EcoSport has been spotted in its original shell, unlike the previous few instances where the Fiesta Hatch’s body was being used to test the car. Looking at the pictures of the production version, it seems Ford has lived up to the concept shown at the Auto Expo. We can see the headlamps, grille and tail lamps being identical to the ones we saw in New Delhi. More good news is that according to the pictures, the Ford EcoSport looks ready for production.
The EcoSport will be powered by a new, 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol motor, which produces 120 PS and 170 newton-meter of torque. The Three cylinder motor, despite being tiny promises the punch of a regular 1.6 petrol motor, only with better efficiency figures and reduced CO2 emissions. A diesel engine will later follow in, which we presume will be the 1.5 DuraTORQ motor that currently does duty on the new Fiesta.
If Ford India gets the pricing right, the EcoSport is sure to be a success; just like the Figo hatchback. Ford has already invested Rs.750 crores onto the production of the EcoSport, which shows its seriousness towards the product. If such tests continue to follow, expect the EcoSport’s launch in a few months.
