Royal Enfield launched the Thunderbird 500 in the Indian market at Rs. 1.82 lakhs on-road Mumbai. The company also launched the Thunderbird 350 based on the 500 platform and is priced at Rs. 1.43 lakhs. The Thunderbird 500 gets a large 20 litres fuel tank which has a range of 500km before one requires refuelling.
The bike features projector headlamp, daytime running lights, LED tail lamp, bungee mounts, wider rear view mirrors, split seat and a blackened engine. The 499cc, 27.6 PS, 41.3 Nm single cylinder engine is a lifted straight from the Classic 500 and is tuned for better cruising ability at the same time returning decent fuel efficiency as well. The engine features twin spark plus ignition, hydraulic tappets and fuel injection. The engine is mated to a five speed gear box and has electric start as standard along with kick starter option.
The flagship Thunderbird 500 will be available in three shades: Flicker Black, Twilight Black and Stone Matt.
Ground clearance has been increased to 140mm while the bike is shorter by 5mm due to use of 18-inch rear wheel size. The 350 also sports new the features and has a range of 600Km.
Bookings for the Thunderbird 350 and 500 are now open across Royal Enfield showrooms in India. Royal Enfield also plans to launch riding gear like helmets, jackets and boots.
