Renault is gearing up to launch its new small car Kwid in the Indian market very soon.
The Kwid is Renault’s first car in the sub Rs. 4 lakhs segment and will be manufactured at Renault – Nissan alliance plant in Chennai with very high localization content (upto 98%).
The Kwid looks like a baby Duster with mini SUV like muscular front end which unique to the car in this segment. Kwid’s short front and rear overhangs coupled with high ground clearance of 180mm further accentuate the SUV like looks. The front grille design which is also found on the Lodgy highlights the logo and further emphasises the Kwid’s SUV credentials.
The interiors get dull grey colour and simple dashboard layout which is dominated by a large seven-inch (18 cm) touch screen with MediaNav system, USB and Aux–in.
The interiors are spacious and the tall boy design will help to offer higher headroom and legroom.
A first in this segment the Kwid gets an all digital instrument cluster with speedometer, tachometer (reminds me of the Yamaha FZ), fuel gauge and other warning indicators.
The Kwid will be available with an 800c petrol engine option only which has been jointly developed by Nissan and Renault and will most likely be offered with an AMT automatic gearbox in the future. This motor makes a maximum of 57bhp and 75 Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Renault has started accepting bookings for the Kwid in Goa at Rs 5,000. Renault has 3 dealerships in Goa –Panjim, Margoa and Mapusa which is managed by Quadros Motors.
The Kwid will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Alto K10, Hyundai Eon and Datsun GO. The upcoming small car will come at a starting price of Rs. 3 lakhs.
