Maruti Suzuki India has stopped production of the current Swift Hatchback at their Mansear Plant. This has been done to make way for the new Swift, which will be launched in late August or early September.
The outgoing model will be replaced by an all-new Swift (codename: YP8) next month. The Swift was first unveiled by Suzuki in 2005 and soon became an instant hit in India.
The Swift which sells close 12k units per month is the leader in the B+ segment. Thanks to the 1.3 Multijet diesel engine which completely changed the fortunes of the car in India.
Suzuki had unveiled the 3rd generation Suzuki Swift last year in Hungary. The 3rd generation Swift is slightly larger than the present one. Extensive higher strength steel has been used to make bodyshell lighter and stiffer.
