Japanese car maker Nissan will soon begin the exports of its latest sedan ‘Sunny’ in March. Nissan Sunny is based on the new V platform and shares with the Micra and Renault Pulse hatchback.
The Micra and Sunny are manufactured at the Oragadam facility near Chennai which has a capacity of producing two lakh units.
After beginning exports of its first hatchback Micra, Nissan Motor India Managing Director and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama today said they would be commencing exports of “Sunny”.
“We will be exporting Sunny by March-end. Already we were exporting Micra to many countries. Initially, Sunny will be exported to Middle East market, Tokuyama told reporters here.
Currently, Nissan sold 25,000 units of Micra while the Sunny diesel version has got over 4,000 bookings so far, he said.
Nissan-Renault will also increase the capacity from 2 lakhs to 4 lakhs by end of March. Nissan will launch the Evalia MPV by mid 2012 while Renault will launch the sedan variant which could be based on the Sunny sedan.
The Nissan Sunny is available with a 1498cc petrol engine and 1461 diesel engine. There is option for an automatic in the Indian market but it is most likely that the export markets could be equipped with an automatic transmission.
