The car has is based on the same platform as the outgoing Alto, although with major improvements. The Alto has been the best-seller in the market for 8-consecutive years and with the Alto 800, Maruti plans to continue with the legacy.
The car comes with an upgraded F8 petrol engine which now produces 47bhp of peak-power and 69 Nm of peak-torque. The engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission with Detent pin technology. The gearbox has been upgraded to a cable-type unit which improves the gear shifts quality. The biggest change on the car however, is in the interiors where one now also gets to choose between grey as well as brown upholstery. The option however is limited to the top-end, LXi trim.
In-terms of dimensions, the Alto 800 sees a slight improvement. You now get better rear leg room (15mm), better head room (roof placed at 15mm over the current model) and the car is even 15mm wider. The new Alto 800 is available in 6 shades – Frost Blue, Granite Grey, Superior White, Blazing Red, Silky Silver and Torque Blue.
