Couple of day back we revealed that the Honda Brio diesel is undergoing testing and had showed you a video of the car with evident diesel clatter to confirm that it was indeed a diesel. Today we have more pictures of diesel Brio’s undergoing testing at various locations in and around Delhi PLUS ANOTHER VIDEO.
The diesel engine in these Brio’s are imported from Japan and production of a prototype in India is expected to start soon. The Brio’s which were spotted came without any badging and emblems and had red colored number plates. They had black color rear view mirrors instead of the body colored ones which are available on the petrol.
Our sources tell us that the Brio will be powered by a 1.2 litre i-DTEC engine. Knowing Honda, one can expect class leading fuel efficiency of 24-25 km/litre. Honda is cautious to start its innings in the diesel car segment and is testing the car rigorously. The cars are being tested for 16 to 18 hours a day and have already done around 50,000 km all around India.

We expect the high quality interiors of the Brio to remain unchanged. The only visual difference between the petrol and diesel variants will be the diesel badging.
Diesel Brio has the potential of being a game changer. Honda has suffered badly due to non-availability of diesel powered cars. The going for the petrol Hondas is going to be tough in the future too as customers continue to prefer diesel powered cars, as they are perceived to be better value thanks to their low running cost.

The Brio will be the first car from Honda to have a diesel engine. It will be soon followed by the larger Jazz and the City. Jazz is expected to get the same diesel engine from the Brio whereas the City will get a larger 1.6 i-DTEC engine.
Another important piece of information is that Honda will setup a new manufacturing line in Tapukara in Rajasthan, where it also plans to build a components plant and we expect the diesel engine plant to be housed there.
