After a few official teaser’s, Mitsubishi has finally released a studio shot of the next-gen Outlander SUV. The new Outlander takes on a brand new look that Mitsubishi states will be adopted across its future model range. Based on the PX-MiEV II concept shown at the Tokyo Motor show earlier, the new Outlander will also be available in a plug-in Hybrid variant for some markets.
Originally slotted for a debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the next-gen Outlander will be available in both two-wheel and all-wheel drive variants. A 2 litre MIVEC petrol engine and a 2.2 litre common rail turbo diesel engine will be on offer, although performance and specifications of both these engines remain under wraps for the moment.
New features for the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander include a new dashboard layout for “better driver concentration”, a new multi-function steering wheel with a clear-lens instrument panel, flat cargo area with a powered tailgate and ‘wide-vision’ headlamps. Added safety kit includes a ‘Forward Collision Mitigation System’, a lane departure warning system and active cruise control.
Pricing details and other technical specifications of the 2012 Outlander are expected to be revealed in the next couple of weeks in the run up to the Geneva Motor Show. For India, the rising Yen has been averting Mitsubishi from making any launches for a couple of years. The Pajero Sport’s launch has been postponed hundreds of time, and keeping that in mind our expectations for this aren’t very high.
We can expect the new Outlander to hit the Indian shores by 2014 and we hope the diesel Outlander also debuts in the Indian market.
