BMW has another feather in its cap with the new X4 crossover. The German car maker surprised the world with X6 Coupe and now the long-awaited X4 crossover will make its debut at the 2013 Shanghai motor show.
BMW tagged the X1 as Sports Activity Vehicle and with the X4 the company wants to do a Sports Activity Coupe. The concept images look closer to the production car and will share the mechanicals with the X3. In terms of design it borrows looks from the new 3 Series and profile from the X6.
The X4 will measure around 4.65 meters in length and will be powered by a similar engines available on the X3. Transmission options include an 8 speed automatic gear box with paddle shifters.
The new X4 Sports Activity Vehicle will compete with the likes of Range Rover Evoque and upcoming Audi Q4 which will also have a similar silhouette.
There are no much details about the when the official launch will take place but can assume the production model to be officially launched at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The X4 will mostly be built at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina alongside the X3, X5 and X6 models.
