After hearing this news feel felt very happy. Tata Motors is all set to give the Nano small car a much needed engine boost. An all new 800cc engine is being developed for the most affordable car in the Indian auto industry.
“We have variants coming out with a three-cylinder engine developing 60bhp or 80bhp and we will also give the Nano larger tyres and wheels,” says Ratan Tata, company chairman, whose brainchild the Nano is. However, the timeframe for these upgrades is not clear. Tata says, “They won’t be coming out very soon, but it’s in our interest to get them out as fast as possible.”
Tata motors has been trying best to push Nano sales has set a target on 10,000 plus on a monthly basis for the Nano in 2012. The company will look at market conditions before they launch a new engine option on the Nano.
In early January, when Tata group Chairman Ratan Tata let on that the Nano would see a “resurrection”, and that the unintended perception of it being a poor man’s car would be altered.
The current 624cc engine will continue to be the mainstay, but it will be focused more sharply on semi-urban and rural markets.
They added that the upgraded option, which is currently under development, is an attempt to target more affluent customers who are currently gravitating towards cars in the Rs 2.4 lakh and above price point (ex-showroom Delhi).
Tata Motors is also developing a diesel variant of the Nano which could see a 2013 or 2014 launch. The diesel engine, which will be close to 1,000cc, has been tested by Jaguar Land Rover.
The new 2012 Nano certainly has certainly been a major boost to Tata Motors. The new petrol & diesel engines will further help to improve the image of the car.
We hope the Nano all the very best.
