Volkswagen will launch a new variant of the Polo hatchback to replace the 1.6 with a new powerful and fuel efficient 1.2 TSI petrol engine. We reported yesterday of the car to be launched next month.
Thanks to our friends at Overdrive, we have more details and pics of the car which seem to be parked in the factory. The Polo with the TSI engine will be dubbed as Polo GT and will feature an automatic gearbox. We could expect the 7 Speed DSG unit to most likely make it as VW also offers a similar variant in the UK market.
On the outside the car will look similar to the current Polo with smoked headlamps and sporty body kit available on the Polo SR. The will get GT TSI badging on the door sills. Interior will get dual tone treatment with brushed-metal pedals and functional steering with updated audio system.
Pricing will be similar to the 1.6 Polo in the range of 6.5 to 7 lakhs. The car benefits from the 1.2 litre engine and will fall in the 10% excise bracket compared to 22%.
In the UK market the Polo is offered with eight engine options which also include the 1.4 TSI 180 PS power unit which is available on the Polo R Cup cars. We could only dream about VW launching this particular variant in the Indian market. If launched the Polo GTI will give the yet to be launched Punto Abarth some serious competition.
