With high disparity between petrol & diesel prices, it makes more sense for the company to focus on the low power diesel engine. High fuel efficiency numbers is a considered a major car buying decision maker. Strangely it also affects the rich for whom it hardly matters.

Mercedes-Benz launches C-Class & E-Class Sport Edition
With the launch of a new variant, Mercedes-Benz has discontinued the E 250 CDI and E 200 CGI variants and will be sold till stocks last. The company will also sell the E350 on made to order basis.
According to Autocar India, Mercedes may have discontinued the E250 CDI to meet the high demand for ML 250 CDI.
Mercedes-Benz is also working on a heavy facelift on the E-Class which will most likely be launched in India in 2013-14. With flagging sales, the company is trimming down options which will also benefit the dealers from heavy discounting as they need not stock cars which are not selling.
