The Buying power of Indians has increased over the past few years. This has resulted in increasing sales of Automobiles which in turn has made the Indian market hard to ignore. Many global automobile manufacturers are eyeing the Indian market and one among them is Mazda.
There was a rumor that Mazda is planning on introducing its cars in India. Though there is no official confirmation on the same, we do have an important piece of information that could increase the possibility of the rumor being true. Our friends at Autocar India have managed to snap pictures of the Mazda CX-5 which was undergoing testing in India. The fact that Mazda is testing the car clearly indicates that it is serious about the Indian entry.
Seen in the picture is the Mazdas CX-5, it is a five seater SUV and its design is based on Mazda’s Kodo design language, inspired by the stance of a crouching cheetah. It looks very sporty and has good amount of road presence. It is built on a rigid and lightweight platform and comes with efficient engines and transmissions. Globally, the CX-5 is powered by a 2.0-litre 155bhp petrol motor and a 147bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The SUV segment is growing rapidly in India and the CX-5 could be the ideal car for Mazda to make its entry into India. If launched the CX-5 is likely to be pitted against the likes of CR-V and Captiva. CX-5 is one of the smaller SUVs and it will be interesting to see how Mazda positions it in terms of pricing. There is also a possibility of Mazda pricing the car competitively and pitting it against the very successful XUV 500 ie. slightly above the Renault Duster.
