India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki will launch atleast six new models in the Indian market by 2014. The company has also planned a slew of refreshes to keep the customers attracted to Maruti showrooms.
New models for the Indian market
Maruti will launch the updated Wagon R in January. The refresh models gets minor updates and may also see a slight revision in price. The Wagon R is the fourth best-selling car from Maruti Suzuki and comes with petrol & CNG fuel options.
Maruti SX4 sedan facelift is also planned which may be launched in the coming months. The SX4 sales have been on a downslide. One of the reasons is the production constraints, as the assembly line was utilised to manufacture the Swift & Swift Dzire.
Maruti showcased the SX4 crossover at the 2012 Auto and now plans to launch it in India by 2014. Suzuki also showcased a new concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show: S-Cross which seems like could be the next generation SX4 crossover.
Now details are sketchy as to which crossover could make it to the Indian market. With small SUV’s like the Duster & Quanto getting overwhelming response, Maruti too may want to get the current gen SX4 crossover to tap a few customers’ looks for an urban SUV.
Suzuki is also working on a smaller 800cc diesel engine, a first by the Suzuki Company which will power the next generation compact diesel cars. Currently the company sources diesel engines from Fiat which includes the 1.3 and 1.9 Multijet diesel engines.
Maruti is also working on a facelift for the A-Star and a new five-door model on the A-star platform (codenamed YL-7) is expected to be rolled out just before Diwali and will offered with a 1 litre K-Series engine. The company may plan to strap a diesel heart onto the car.
Also in the pipeline is an upgrade for the Swift and the Zen Estilo for 2013.
