To counter the high petrol prices, India’s largest car maker is planning to introduce more CNG cars in India. CNG cars are more environment-friendly and Maruti currently offers five models in CNG options — compact cars Alto, WagonR and Estilo, multi-purpose van Eeco, and sedan SX4.
Maruti may consider launching the Omni MPV and the hopefully the Swift and Swift Dzire in CNG options.
Maruti should also consider focusing on LPG and hybrid options if they have to sell more environment-friendly cars in India.
CNG is currently limited to only NCR region. Gujarat and Mumbai. This gives limited scope for companies to introduce cars with CNG fuel option.
The auto industry requires backing from the government to make vehicles with eco-friendly alternate fuel options a success.
