Maruti Suzuki is planning to make a Swift even hotter and plans to launch a sporty variant the performance flagship of the Swift series. The Swift Sport which is sold in the international markets may see its official launch in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki may either launch the Swift Sport with a M16A (1,586cc) engine which also does the duty on the SX4 or with the 1.4 K-Series petrol engine which is strapped on the Ertiga. Internationally the Swift is available with either a CVT or 6 Speed manual transmission, but the chances of the same for the Indian market seems most unlikely.
The Swift Sport does have a small but niche market and competitors like Volkswagen and Skoda have the Polo & Fabia 1.6 in the market. Hyundai also has the i20 with 1.4 engine option mated to a automatic gear box.
The Swift Sport is also available in a 3 door variant in the international market. If the Sport if launched will be available in the 5 door variant only. For passive safety, the body is based on Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology, which ensures that it efficiently absorbs and disperses impact forces. Extensive use of high-tensile steel is also made.
The Swift Sport gets six airbags (including side and curtain airbags), ESP and an antilock braking system with electronic braking-force distribution are standard equipment.
The Swift Sport could cost anything between Rs. 6.5-7 lakhs when launched.
