Mahindra and Mahindra will launch the electric version of its commercial vehicle Maxximo by around October this year, as the two-wheelers to trucks company looks to cash in on the increasing popularity of the low cost, low maintenance electric vehicles.
Electric Maxximo will be as practical as any other commercial vehicle of its size. It has the capacity of going up to 90 kilometers per full charge of 8 hours. The company is also planning a foray into the electric two-wheeler market, although no launch date has been decided for the products.
The vehicle, the electric variant of Mahindra’s mini-truck Maxximo that was unveiled recently at the Auto Expo 2010, will find competition in the soon-to-be-launched electric variant of Tata Motors’ one-tonner Ace. The two-cylinder diesel mini truck Maxximo has a payload capacity of 850 kilograms, although its electric variant will have lesser capacity of around 600 kilograms.
Mahindra and Mahindra is also looking to export its Maxximo electric to Europe and the US.
