Mahindra & Mahindra is having a roll in the Indian auto industry. 2012 marked a very important year for the company which saw the Verito refresh and the Quanto SUV launch. The biggest achievement for the company would be seizing the third position from Tata Motors which have been suffering from declining sales and ageing product line-up.
In the next 12 months Mahindra will launch four refreshes of the existing products. We can expect the Scorpio, Bolero, Xylo and Thar to get updates. The company is working on three new products, which will hit the market from fiscal 2015, according to Mr. Pawan Goenka, president – automotive and farm equipment sectors for Mahindra & Mahindra.
Let’s us talk about what are the new products we can expect from Mahindra
New Scorpio: Mahindra will launch a new Scorpio by 2015 and the company will use the ladder on chassis platform as opposed to the monoque platform on which the XUV5OO sits on. We feel the company will tweak the current generation Scorpio platform with new suspension, better stability and less body roll.
The Scorpio will get the updated mHawk engine and a new transmission. The biggest changes will on the inside and we can certainly expect a lot of the XUV5OO features to make it in the new 2015 Scorpio.
Small Low cost Compact SUV: Riding on the success of the Quanto compact SUV, Mahindra plans to launch a new low cost SUV which will be priced under Rs. 5 lakhs. Mahindra is working on a new platform smaller than the Ingenio on which the Xylo & Quanto is based.
We could expect the low cost SUV to be less than four metres, powered by a choice of a new 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 Bi-Turbo diesel engine.
Compact Car: Mahindra also plans to launch a model in the compact car segment, which is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. This segment accounts for 70% of car sales in the Indian market, and the new model will only bring additional sales volume to the company. The new small car will most likely share its platform with low cost SUV along with similar engine options.
Mahindra is certainly looking to be a bigger player and has also many export markets on its radar. All new models will be made considering global markets.
Mahindra is certainly on a Rise.
