Indian utility vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to set-up its third passenger car plant in the Indian market and is considering Andra Pradesh (AP) as its new base. AP is not new to the company and already houses Asia’s largest tractor manufacturing facility at Zaheerabad.
Mahindra has now become India’s third largest car maker overtaking Tata Motors. The company star performers include the Bolero UV, Scorpio and XUV5OO SUV. The new Quanto compact SUV is also selling 3000 plus units on a monthly basis.
Mahindra will launch the e2o electric car on the 18th of March and the Verito compact sedan by end of March. The company also retails the Ssangyong Rexton positioned in the premium SUV segment. More products under the Ssangyong brand are expected to be launched in the Indian market.
Mahindra’s automobile facility at Zaheerabad currently manufactures three wheelers, light commercial vehicles and the Bolero utility vehicle. The group has spent Rs. 300 crore on Asia’s largest tractor manufacturing plant with a capacity to produce one-lakh units a year.
Besides setting up a new plant the company also plans to set-up a supplier park at Zaheerabad. Already seven spare parts vendors have agreed to set up their facilities involving investments of Rs. 20-50 crore.
