Mahindra the brand known for SUV’s in India has been quite busy off late, launching a slew of products and most importantly sub four metre SUV’s which included the TUV 3OO, Nuvosport, KUV 1OO micro suv.
Now the Bolero has entered the highly lucrative segment with the arrival of the Sub four metre Bolero power+ which has now been launched in Goa as well.
The Bolero brand is a strong product for the Mahindra group ever since its launch in 2000, with over 9 lakh Bolero’s already on road and counting.
But due to stiff competition from new competitors, sales began to shrink slowly, so the homegrown SUV maker decided to give their popular SUV a new lease of life by ducking it under the sub four metre segment, thus availing tax benefits and a cheaper price tag.
Not much has changed in terms of design between the standard Bolero and the sub four metre and the SUV possess the same boxy design with stylish headlights, honeycomb mesh grille and stylish design, but look closer and you will notice that Mahindra has cleverly done alterations to the front and rear bumpers to help in the four metre length.
The interiors are the same as the standard Bolero as is with the dashboard design, feature list and loads of space, the third row now gets jump seats facing each other, while the rest is un – changed, the three spoke steering wheel, wood finish centre console, digital instrument cluster and Audio system with USB, Aux – in and CD.
Mechanically the Bolero Power+ has received its biggest update with a brand new mHawk D70 engine good for producing 70 bhp at 3600 rpm and torque of 195 nm @ 1400 – 2200 rpm.
Transmission options range includes 5 speed manual gearbox, and the suv boasts of an ARAI claimed 16.5 kmpl mileage and comes equipped with Micro hybrid technology and an engine immobilizer for added safety.
Mahindra’s Bolero has always been a strong product for the Indian SUV maker, but with having left to face fierce competition from rivals, the company decided to give its iconic SUV a new lease of life. With the arrival of the Power+, Mahindra seems to have addressed the issue by ducking it less than four metres thus availing tax benefits leading to cheaper price tag, but will the Bolero Power+ manage to outsell its rivals or will it do better than its own siblings, time will tell…
