Mahindra & Mahindra plans to add more variants to the XUV5OO in the next two years. Mr. Pawan Goenka, president of farm equipment and automotive sectors at Mahindra shared details of the two year plan to further strengthen its presence in the SUV market.
Betting on the XUV5OO which brought tremendous success to the company, Mahindra plans to launch two new variants. Currently the XUV5OO is available in three variants: W6 Front Wheel Drive, W8 Front Wheel Drive and W8 All Wheel Drive.
We can expect a lower priced and less specked variant in 2013-14 and an automatic top of the line in 2015. Currently, Mahindra is working on different automatic options for the XUV5OO and has also finalized on a vendor for the same. There would be no changes to the engine, but we can expect further refinement and tweaks to suspension and braking system. The expensive variant could also borrow new technology and gadgetry from the recently launched e2o electric car.
The XUV5OO has been an instant success right from day one and has been selling close to 4000 units per month. Mahindra is also working on a petrol engine option which is mainly destined for the export market.
