Tata Motors is getting more and more serious in the Indian luxury car segment. With the entire JLR (minus Defender) on sale in India Tata is now looking at larger step by making cars in India.
Tata had stared the CKD assembly of the Freelander a couple of months back and also reduced the price.
Land Rover is gearing to launch the Evoque in India by end of this and Jaguar may launch the XF facelift by early 2012. The Range Rover Evoque could be a volumes seller as the SUV is targeted towards more trendy and younger buyers.
JLR is looking to roll out locally-assembled Jaguar XF sedan and Range Rover Evoque SUV within 12-18 months according to some sources. Assembled cars attract a lower import duty of 10-30%, while imported vehicles are slapped a duty of more than 120%.
JLR feels India and China will be the key growth drivers in the next five-10 years. Therefore, the company envisages a bigger assembly operation in India and joint venture partner in China to boost its overall growth.
