A few weeks back, Korean automaker Hyundai launched the striking new generation Elantra in India, and the executive sedan has been subsequently launched by Hyundai dealership in Goa.
The New Elantra adopts a new mature fluidic design language with a large hexagonal chrome lined grille up front with a thick chrome border, flanked by sleek projector headlamps with day time running lamps and a sporty bumper with arrow shaped air cushion and projector fog lamps.
The side profile reveals a large airy cabin with an almost coupe – ish roof which flows smoothly into the well integrated bootlid; along with large wheel arches which house big gun metal finish 16 inch, double spoke alloy wheels and chrome touches for the door handles and window lining.
The rear three quarters make up for the best part of this design as the integrated spoiler with a large bootlid flanked by large LED taillamps and a sportier bumper design with reflectors make for a beautiful appearance once the car zooms ahead of you.
The new sedan is available in 9 variants, 5 exterior paint shades.
Inside the Elantra is an different design altogether, the mature fluidic design language makes way for a simpler European looking interior design with many premium and high quality bits all over, the dashboard receives an all black treatment with chrome or dull metal inserts all over.
The centre console is made up of an 8.0 touchscreen audio video navigation system which comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android auto infotainment system with air con vents on both sides and automatic air con controls placed lower down.
The instrument cluster now receives white background treatment and a multi function new steering wheel.
Headroom at front is impressive and the seats themselves are designed for maximum comfort, while at the rear legroom has been improved, while headroom for really tall passengers could be a slight issue but overall headroom and space has been improved a lot over the previous Elantra which was cramped at the rear.
Features and tech on offer includes high density headlamps with positioning lamps and projector fog lamps, smart trunk control, new electric sunroof, LED effect taillamps, reversing sensors and camera, 6 speaker Arkamys music system, Rear A/C vents, front ventilated seats, Keyless push button start/ stop, leatherite upholstery, Electro chromic mirror, premium door scuff plates with Elantra badging, aluminium pedals, Projector fog lamps,
Safety aspect of the new generation Elantra has been taken carried off by equipping the sedan with 6 airbags, ABS, dual airbags, EBD as standard across all 9 variants, however Reverse parking camera and sensors, Electronic stability control, Vehicle stability management, hill start assist control, front projection fog lamps, new high density headlamps and impact sensing all door lock/ unlock sensing lock are offered on higher variants.
Power for this new sedan comes from the choice of a 2.0 litre petrol engine good for 152 PS @ 6200 rpm with 19.6 kgm of torque @ 4,000 rpm, while the 1.6 litre Common rail technology diesel is equipped with a Variable geometry turbo produces 128 PS @ 4,000 rpm with 26.5kgm of torque @ 1,900 – 2,750 rpm.
Transmission options include a 6 speed manual or automatic for both engines. Hyundai claims ARAI spec best in class economy of 22.54 kmpl for the diesel manual, while 18.23 kmpl for the automatic, while a mileage of 14.59 for the 6 speed manual 14.62 kmpl for the automatic is reported on the petrol engine.

The New Elantra has received over 400 bookings in the Indian market so far and the number seems to be gradually increasing day by day spelling success for this new car in just a few days of launch, indicting at fresh life at the executive sedan segment which has seen a steady decline in sales over the years, but will the competition just sit there and take notice or will they also set game soon..?
