Hyundai will launch the Elantra sedan in the Indian market by August. The New Gen Elantra sedan was shown at the 2012 Auto Expo. Hyundai has been launching a slew of new products in the last couple of days. The South Korean car maker has been testing the car in Indian for quite sometime now.
Hyundai showcased the 1.6 litre with 130 PS version of the Sedan. The design continues Hyundai’s “fluidic sculpture” styling theme first seen in the 2011 Sonata. The Elantra will also get the diesel engine option as there would be very few takers for the petrol engine option.
With the Premium segment growing, Hyundai plans to launch new models at every price point. The Verna has been a sales success and is currently the segment leader. When launched the Elantra will have to compete with the likes of VW Jetta, Skoda Laura, Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla and Renault Fluence.
The Elantra will make a comeback in the India market after missing the previous generation. Hyundai had launched the ELantra in India in 2004 and then later discontinued it in 2008 completely. The fourth generation was not launched in India as the market did not very accept the Elantra. Hyundai had Elantra in both petrol and diesel engine options.
