Honda Car India has discontinued the Jazz in the Indian market and will stop production of the car completely from March. The news is certainly a shock to all Jazz lovers and will disappoint many customers who have booked the hatch and waiting for couple of weeks.
Honda wants to focus on the Amaze sedan to be introduced in April and hence free up capacity as the company is anticipating the new car to be a volume generator. Honda does want the potential customers to wait for long period and is also looking to tap some Maruti customers which have to wait for atleast 2-3 months to own a Dzire.
Another reason for discontinuing the Jazz is the loss the company made after re-launching it with a reduced price tag. We were told the company lost significant money after the price reduction. Honda also made the Jazz in very limited numbers for the same reason and retailed just 400-500 units per month.
However the scene will soon change with the introduction of the all New Jazz which will debut in 2014. Honda will also launch the new City in 2014. Both the Jazz & City are based on the same platform and will have a very high local content upto 90%. These measures will help Honda to aggressively price the next Gen City & Jazz in the Indian market.
The 2014 Jazz will also be available with a 1.5 i-dtec diesel engine which will be first introduced on the Amaze sedan.
