Honda has launched the City CNG in the Thai market which fulfils the needs of customers looking for alternative fuel vehicles drive. The car is powered by the same 1.5 i-VTECH engine and comes with a 3-year warranty.
Honda has installed a special CNG fuel system that comes with the gas injection system with a separate ECU (electronic control box) and re-designed suspension with reinforcing bars at the rear. The front suspension is also tweaked to take additional weight of the tank.
Also a unique feature is the mode by which one can fill in the fuel. Honda has intelligently provided a fuel nozzle inlet along with the normal petrol inlet. Its a very unique feature as in present cars one has to open the bonnet to fill the CNG gas. The sequential CNG system ensures there is no power loss while shifting from petrol to CNG and vice versa.
The car is produced at Honda’s Ayutthaya factory and the meets EU4 emission norms.
Executive vice-president Pitak Pruittisarikorn said Honda is committed to designing vehicles that are powered by clean and alternative energies. It is also in line with Honda’s global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30% from 2000 levels across all product lines by 2020.Mr Pitak said oil price increases in recent years have led to increasing concerns by Honda about the rising burden of costs on motorists.
We can expect the City CNG in India by Diwali and at a premium of atleast Rs. 65,000-75,000. In Indian Honda may launch CNG option on the E & S variants unlike Thailand where it is also available on the top end variant.
