A couple of days back we reported, about Honda’s plan for the Indian market and its new identity. Its official now as the company has announced Honda Cars India (HCIL) to be its new identity in India. The name change will be with immediate effect as per the fresh Certificate of Incorporation issued by the Registrar of Companies, NCT of Delhi and Haryana.
HCIL is now a 100% Honda subsidiary in India. Honda also ended its twenty six year old joint venture with Hero in 2010 and has put its focus on Honda Motorcycle Scooter India, which is the completely owned subsidiary of Honda two wheelers.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Hironori Kanayama, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Limited, said, “We are committed to the Indian market and will continue to delight our customers with latest products from Honda, which will enrich their lives and enhance their lifestyles. Honda’s quality, superior technology and overall ownership experience is what has endeared this brand to our customers since inception and same philosophy will drive us in future.”
The new identity will focus on small and fuel efficient cars, with main focus on two cars: Brio and City sedan. Honda will launch the Brio Automatic in October and the City with CNG could likely see its introduction by end of this year.
The company plans to discontinue the Accord and Civic sedan in the Indian market due to sliding numbers and market shifting to diesel powered cars.
