All eyes will be on Honda Motor’s when they launch the Honda Brio on 27th September 2011 (today). Honda has battled auto components shortage with the devastating tsunami in Japan earlier in the year, and has also been hurt by three vehicle recalls in less than 2 years. The company has also undergone an impact because of their petrol cars portfolio with petrol prices rising by the day!
The Honda Brio launch will be their debut in the small car segment in India, which was primarily dominated by India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki. Honda has been recording a decline in sales in recent months. To counter that Honda Siel Cars India offered a discount of Rs. 60,000 for the Honda City Rs. 1.50 lakhs on the Honda Jazz. After a six month period, the Honda City is back at top spot in the midsized sedan segment in India.
The Honda Brio petrol hatchback will take on the new Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, Nissan Micra, Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Etios Liva, and the Chevrolet Beat.
The Honda Brio hatchback will launched with similar variant nomenclature like the City: E, S and V.
Honda Brio may look small from outside but is a very spacious car from inside. From start the car will have a localisation of 70-80% which will be further increased in future.
The car will be powered the same 1.2 iVtec engine which also does the duty in the Jazz but will be tuned for fuel efficiency and will have an power output of 88Ps.
The car will launched at 12 noon and prices will be announced at the time of launch.
