Goa Tourism is gearing up to celebrate the greatest invention of yester years. While Classic cars have invaded the highways, the State of Goa has not forgotten the Vintage era and automobiles of heritage value that served the local populace then.
A one day Vintage Bike and Car Festival 2016, and the first of its kind, is being organized by Goa Tourism to promote the passion for restoring and maintaining vintage bikes and cars.
More than 50 such Vintage vehicles (bikes and cars only) are slated to drive down town in the capital city, come October 1, and will offer a feast for the eyes at the INOX Courtyard. The one day event is poised to be one that will be cherished for a long time. Vintage two-wheeler’s and four wheeler’s dated from 1933 to 1970 will be on display. Cars that one would get a glimpse of at the festival include the Austin, Morris, Cadillac, Ford, Chevrolet, Mercedes, Volkswagen and bikes like Norton, BSA and BMW.
This event is gearing up to be unique and will place Goa Tourism on the map for Motor Tourism, say officials from the Goa Tourism Development Corporation and its co-ordinaters.
Vintage bike and car collectors and vintage bike and car users from Goa and across the State borders have already expressed eagerness to be a part of Goa Tourism’s first ever Vintage Bike and Car festival 2016.
In view of the encouraging response from vintage bike and car collectors, Goa Tourism and GTDC are optimistic that this event will be a huge success. Goa Tourism is toying with the idea of making the Vintage Bike and Car festival an annual event to attract in-bound tourists and will add it on its calendar of events after the conduct of the first edition.
Minister for Tourism, Mr. Dilip Parulekar said, “We are planning this event which is going to be very exciting and enlightening as Vintage cars and bikes from vintage car museums, those in use and those maintained for exhibitions and special occasions will all be participating in it.
Goa Tourism is already showcasing its heritage through various forms and it is apt that we also highlight some hidden treasures of the past from the automobile segment.”
Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Mr. Nilesh Cabral said, “Goa has a rich heritage whether it is monuments, forts, houses and a lot more. Vintage automobile is another form of heritage and in Goa there are vintage car fans who are passionate about this. Through this festival we hope to kindle that hobby and motivate local Goans and others to preserve vintage vehicles so that the present generation and the future will have something to appreciate and admire. This can draw tourists from domestic and international markets who have an appetite for heritage and they will surely have one more facet to engage in when in Goa.”
Goa has two privately run vintage car museums and a large number of vintage bike and car owners and collectors.
