Fords EcoSport is one of the most anticipated cars in India. Time and again it has featured on our site. We have shown you the spy pics of the car undergoing testing in India and also reported that the car will be heavily localized.
Ford has ambitious plans for the EcoSport which includes heavy localisation to keep the cost down and inclusion of award winning EcoBoost Engine. It was also speculated that the EcoSport will get the PowerShift Automatic Transmission from the Fiesta but there was no confirmation on the same. But thanks to our friends at IAB we can now confirm that the PowerShift transmission will make it to the EcoSport.
Seen in the Pictures is the EcoSport caught testing. The interior shot clearly reveals that the test mule is equipped with the Powershift Automatic Transmission. This transmission does duty in the Fiesta and is known for its smoothness. It gives the driver the ease of use and thanks to the minimal effect it has on fuel efficiency it is wallet friendly too. It does not require servicing or oil changing for a period of 10 years/2,40,000 kms, hence making it maintenance free which will give the buyer piece of mind.
Other interesting detail revealed by the spy pics is that the interiors will be similar to the Fiesta. The dashboard could be mistaken to be the one on the fiesta. The interiors fabrics and trims which include silver finished central console and air vents follow the same theme and the Steering wheel is directly lifted from the fiesta. The good news is that the feature list could also be shared that means the EcoSport will get features such as In-vehicle communication and entertainment system with voice command and Bluetooth connectivity, Cruise control etc.
The EcoSport will be launched in early 2013. What remains to be seen is whether the Powershift transmission will be available only in petrol variant like the Fiesta or will it also be available in diesel variant? only time will tell.
