A couple of weeks ago, we had reported on how our friends from China have already started spotting the test-mules of the much awaited Ford EcoSport. It seems that hasn’t bothered the Ford officials in China much, as our friends from Chinesecars have snapped it yet again. The car this time however, carried much better camouflaging and because of that certain details are still unknown to us.
The car looks identical to what we saw at the Delhi Auto Expo; however this being its final production avatar,it no more carries the flashy LED headlamps that were seen on the concept. The interior design is still a mystery; however we expect it to be something similar to the Fiesta sedan. More good news is that Ford India has already started contacting its customers for enquiries on the EcoSport. This clearly shows that Ford doesn’t want to see its customers walking away to other brands such as Renault, which is also launching the Duster in June this year.
The EcoSport will be powered by a new 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol motor, which produces 120 PS and 170 newton-meter of torque. The Three cylinder motor despite being tiny promises the punch of a regular 1.6 petrol motor, only with better efficiency figures and reduced CO2 emissions. A diesel engine will later follow in, which we presume will be the 1.5 DuraTORQ motor that currently does duty on the new Fiesta.
The US based automaker has already invested Rs.750 crores onto the production of the EcoSport. Moreover, the company is also working on a new manufacturing unit in Gujarat, which will start churning out cars by 2014. Ford India’s president, Mr Michael Boneham had said in one of his statements that the company plans to unload seven more products by the mid-decade. To support its plans for the new products, the company had recently inaugurated 45 new dealerships across the country on a single-day. Looking at how the brand is growing, the success of the EcoSport would be yet another feather in its cap.
