Chevrolet India is planning an onslaught on new models and variants for the Indian market. The company plans to launch at least 6 models in 2012. After the Tavera the Cruze update could make it followed by the Sail hatchback. Chevrolet is also looking at ways to revive their entry car Spark which will get some minor updates and possibly a new smaller engine under the hood.
Chevrolet has been toying with the idea of launching the Spark with an 800cc engine which will help the American car maker to take on the rivals like the Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon.
The small car market is set to grow further and to tap this segment other car makers like Nissan are even planning to launch a new brand-Datsun to offer more affordable cars.
The Spark is powered by a 1.0 litre petrol engine and is also available in LPG variant. The car has been witnessing dwindling sale in the last couple of months.
There are also rumours of the Spark getting the diesel engine but we feel this seems very unlikely. The Beat diesel has certainly helped Chevrolet to increase sale but the company has not really able to cash on the opposition.
Maruti Suzuki is also planning to launch a new car in the entry segment which will replace the aging M800, while Tata plans to plonk a 800cc in the Nano.
