For the upwardly mobile high-end Indian consumer, the wait for the latest BMW X1 model will soon be over. In a bid to retain its leadership position in the luxury car segment here, BMW will launch its latest X1 series in India.
X1 will be produced at BMW’s Chennai plant. BMW India, which will begin assembling its ‘X1’ crossover compact SUV by the end of this year, is reportedly looking to price it at Rs. 25 lakh. BMW would be bringing the model in a CKD format and will be its cheapest offering in the country.
The entry-level X1 on the other hand sports a rear-wheel drive (sDrive) and comes with a 1.8L gasoline engine. Overseas, a host of engine configurations are available for the X1 — 1.8L in diesel and petrol, 2.0L diesel, 2.3L diesel and 2.8L petrol. It still remains to be seen which ones make their way here. And as far as sales in this segment are concerned, premium carmakers are having a good time in this country.
