BMW is going to launch the all new M5 in India at the 2012 Auto Expo. The two German carmakers Audi and BMW will launch the high performance variants of the A6 and 5 Series.
The new M5 borrows its powerplant from the X5 M and X6 M performance SUVs. The new model features the world premiere of a newly developed BMW M high-performance, high-revving, 4.4-litre V8 engine with an M twin power turbo package, with twin turbo technology, direct petrol injection and fully variable valve control. The V8 engine produces 560 hp from 6,000-7,000rpm and a maximum of 680 Nm of torque from 1,500rpm.
Importantly, this is the first M5 to be offered with a turbocharged heart, replacing the previous model’s naturally-aspirated V10 engine. The new M5 is paired with a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission, whisking the big sedan to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds. The 200km/h mark comes down in 13 seconds, on the way to a 250km/h electronically-limited top speed.
Tick the ‘M Driver’ package and a claimed 305km/h top speed is unlocked. Standard equipment for the new M5 includes the M division’s performance-specialised sports suspension, along with lightweight compound brakes and M servotronic electric steering.
A programmable driver-assist system is also featured, allowing the driver to save two preferred driving modes with tweaks available for accelerator response, steering response, Drivelogic shift program, Dynamic Damper Control and Dynamic Stability modes.
Thanks to use of extensive Efficient Dynamics technology, including auto start-stop and brake energy regeneration, fuel consumption is cut by more than 30% when compared to the previous model.
A luxurious ambience exists within the sports car cockpit of the new BMW M5’s interior. The M sports seats are upholstered in Merino leather, and the cabin features a BMW Individual roof lining in Anthracite. Four-zone automatic climate control ensures all occupants remain comfortable.
