Bajaj will unveil its all new small car the Bajaj ULC on January 3, 2012 at the Taj Palace hotel in New Delhi in the run-up to the Auto Expo. The production ready car from Bajaj which will be showcased at Pragati Maidan comes four years after the original concept was shown at the Auto Expo in 2008.
Bajaj had announced that the small car would directly compete with the Tata Nano and would return a fuel efficiency of 30kmpl.
Bajaj had signed a triplicate JV with Renualt-Nissan to develop the ULC small car. The three partners of the ULC project have been struggling to find engineering solutions to produce such a low cost product.
The all-new car platform which can be used for private and commercial applications is likely to be launched as a commercial vehicle first before being upgraded for personal use.
In 2008, Bajaj showed a prototype of this car at the 2008 Indian Auto Expo. There are no details regarding the engine cc, power and other performance measures. The car will certainly be under 4 metres and will seat four people.
Tata Motors has recently launched the 2012 Nano which now gets additional power and features. Will the small car be able to take on the Nano? Well the doubts will be cleared on the 3rd of Jan when Bajaj drops the curtain down of the Ultra low cost car.
