With customers in rural India moving beyond frugality and beginning to demand safety and performance oriented bikes, Bajaj is gearing up to cash in on the new trend with products suited to meet requirements of the hinterlands.
Called the Bharat bike or ‘Tank on Two Wheels’, the Boxer 150cc wills the roads by August this year targeting the rural market.
Bajaj currently has no product which is specifically catering to the rural market and sells mainly the Discover range.
According to the company which conducted a rural market survey the customers are seeking for bikes with wider tyres that give more road grip, higher engine power and robust.
Bajaj has already launched in certain markets and is test marketing it in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. By August the company will launch it over most parts of India.
We expect the Boxer 150 to get the heart from the Discover 150, which is equipped with a 144.8cc, DTS-i 4-stroke engine. Power and figures could be essentially close to 13Ps and 12.75 Nm.
