With the Indian government giving an approval for recognizing a new segment in the automobile space the quadricycle, Bajaj auto has begun testing of the RE 60 quadricycle which the showcased at the 2012 Auto expo. The proposed new segment could be called the ‘quadricycle’ will be positioned between a three-wheeler and a passenger car.
Bajaj-Renault-Nissan may have ended the tie-up for the low cost car project, but that does stop the India auto maker launching the RE 60. Thanks to our friends at Anything-On-Wheels who have spotted a camouflaged RE60 during testing rounds in Pune.
The RE 60 on test seems to be the top model. Bajaj unveiled the RE 60 at the Auto expo and made it clear it was not a proper car which is made to compete with the Tata Nano.
Developed in house the RE 60 will have the lowest emissions with 60 gm/ Km and will deliver a mileage of 35 km/litre. The RE 60 is powered by a 200cc water cooled, 4 valve, DTSI technology will make around 20hp and could ply in Europe as a quadricycle.
Bajaj is expecting the three wheeler customers to upgrade to the RE 60 which could be a good replacement for the less safe auto rickshaws in India.
We could expect the launch of the RE 60 by 2014.
